4TH Annual Award Nominations Announced
The Executive Committees selected nominees in five categories: Member of the Year, Most Outstanding Spec Lead for Java Standard Edition/Enterprise Edition, Most Outstanding Spec Lead for Java Micro Edition, Most Innovative JSR for Java Standard Edition/Enterprise Edition, and Most Innovative JSR for Java Micro Edition. JavaOne Conference Details
 
   
Attend the 2006 JavaOne conference, 16-19 May at Moscone Center in San Franciso, and hear from your colleagues, some of the best and brightest in the industry, at the technical sessions and BOFs. Check the web site for the latest Conference offerings and use the JavaOne Conference Event Connect tool -- a new way to connect with fellow attendees online, as well as the Schedule Builder to reserve your spot at the technical sessions of your choice.
 
There is an article series on java.sun.com that can help you to navigate the hundreds of sessions available at the conference (see below for links). There is also a contributed article by JCP Chair, Onno Kluyt, that highlights some sessions you won't want to miss during the conference:

JCP Program Activities Next Week
There are many opportunities next week at the JavaOne Conference to get in touch with other JCP program participants, members, EC representatives, spec leads, experts, and program office members.
 
Monday 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM: JCP Program Training Session (pre-conference day), held at The Argent Hotel.

Tuesday 6:30 PM: Spec Lead Dinner hosted by the PMO, by invitation only for JCP program Spec Leads and EC Members. See email invitation from Liz Kiener with more details at liz@jcp.org. RSVP.
 
Wednesday 6:30 PM: Evening event hosted by the PMO at The Argent Hotel with food and drink for all JCP program participants. The winners of the fourth annual JCP Program Awards will be announced at this event.

Tuesday - Thursday: JCP pod #749 in the Sun Microsystems booth at the Pavilion. Pick up your badge ribons(s), free stuff, plus representatives from the PMO will be on hand to talk/answer your questions.
 
Monday - Wednesday: Expert Group Meeting Room, The Argent Hotel. Open to all JCP program Expert Groups to conduct face to face meetings for
their JSRs. Contact Liz at liz@jcp.org to reserve a time.

Notewothy JSRs
Did you know that the PMO offers Public Relations support to spec leads? The JCP conducts outreach to the press with JSR news on an ongoing bi-weekly basis. If would like to highlight your JSR, please contact Corina Ulescu at corina@jcp.org.
  • JSR 294, Improved Modularity Support in the JavaTM Programming Language, has been approved for development. This JSR proposes language extensions in support of information hiding and separate compilation.
  • JSR 295, Beans Binding, has been approved for development. This JSR
    will provide an API that allows two properties of two beans to stay in sync.
  • JSR 296, Swing Application Framework, has been submitted for review. This JSR will provide a simple application framework for Swing applications. It will define infrastructure common to most desktop applications. In so doing, Swing applications will be easier to create.
  • JSR 251, Pricing API, is now open for Early Draft Review. This review closes on 31 May.
  • JSR 244, JavaTM Platform, Enterprise Edition 5 (Java EE 5) Specification, has been approved by the EC.
  • JSR 243, Java Data Objects 2.0, has completed its work and published the Final Release. JDO 2.0 builds on JDO 1 and includes many features requested by users.
  • JSR 198, A Standard Extension API for IDEs, has completed its work and published the Final Release of the specification.
  • JSR 1, The Maintenance Lead, Real-time Specification for Java, has published an updated Final Release of the specification.
