Welcome to the Summer 2025 edition of the Java Community Process (JCP) Program Management Office (PMO) Newsletter!
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Time flies here in the JCP Program Office;
we have already started preparing for the fall EC election. If you have an interest in participating
in the JCP EC, be sure to check out the section below and keep the deadlines in mind when you prepare
your materials.
This Newsletter is intended for JCP Members, Executive Committee (EC) Members, Spec Leads, and Java Community Leaders,
but it is accessible to everyone.

Below are some recent highlights:
The Final Specification, Reference Implementation, and Technology Compatibility Kit for
JSR 399, Java SE 24,
was published as the JSR's Final Release in March.
Accompanying that, the Maintenance Leads of these component JSRs published their Maintenance Releases:
JSR 199, Java Compiler API, published its
Maintenance Release 5
JSR 221, JDBC 4, published its
Maintenance Release 4
JSR 269, Pluggable Annotation Processing API, published its
Maintenance Release 10.
The next iteration of the Java SE Specification, JSR 401, Java SE 26, began.
JavaOne returned to the Bay Area in California!
It took place on March 18-20, 2025, in Redwood Shores, CA. If you were not able to attend live, make sure to
check out some of the highlights of the conference on the Java YouTube channel.

We had an amazing time seeing and sharing time together with everyone. It?s always great to see a community full
of Java enthusiasts!
At the party, we also announced the recipients of the 2024 JCP Annual Awards.
Congratulations to Alan Bateman and JavaDominicano for receiving the JCP Member/Participant of the Year and
Java in Education Community Award respectively.

Who are the EC Members and what do they do?
Some of the key responsibilities of the EC Members are to guide the
evolution of Java platforms and technologies, review and approval of the JSRs, and provide the guidance to the JCP PMO.

The JCP hosted a Public EC Meeting on June 10, 2025.
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us live. For those who were not able to attend, the
agenda, materials, and recording are now available online.
The 2025 EC election will start with the nominations period; the nominations form will open on September 16 for
two weeks. Make sure to keep your email address current in your JCP account so that you will receive emails from
the JCP Program Office.

Through the Java in Education initiative, we have been working
with the Java community leaders to inspire their local community of junior developers and students to learn and
use Java technology. This effort is global, JUG led, and is supported by the JCP Program.
Many JUGs have been participating in the initiative. Read the following articles to learn more.
- JUGPH: Java in Education Initiative
Learn how the Java User Group Philippines (JUG PH) revitalized itself and started focusing on educating
the next generation of developers to learn Java.
- Garden State JUG Brings Students into the Fold
Read how the Garden State Java User Group (GSJUG) brings college students of all levels to participate in the
JUG meetups as well as reach out to local high school students to encourage and support them to learn Java.
There are many ways you can participate in the initiative. If you have stories to share, please reach out to us. We are
also working on expanding the number of languages that we offer. Anyone interested in working on the translation of these
materials into their language, please let us know: pmo@jcp.org. We will be happy to help you setup. You will make a
difference to the younger generation of developers interested in learning Java!
The mission of the
Java Ecosystem working group is to educate and increase awareness around Java ecosystem third party tools
and libraries to increase adoption of modern release processes by third partly tool and library maintainers.
The group meets once a month and it is currently invitation-only.
The latest topics include new features in JavaDoc and Spring Framework release models.

Java and AI is the latest initiative by the JCP Program Office and EC Members. Stay tuned for more updates!
