Preparations
for the 2004 Executive Committee (EC) Elections are underway; this
year the ratification ballot will be posted on 28 September, and
voting will begin October 5. The JSPA contact(s) for each JCP member
company or individual are eligible to vote and will be sent their
voting PIN via email on October 5. To confirm that we have the correct
JSPA contact within your company please send e-mail to admin@jcp.org.
Following the ratifications, nominations for the open elections
can be submitted. If you or your company is interested in joining
one of the ECs this is a good time to prepare your nomination. The
nomination template will become available from the voting web site
on 19 October at http://jcpelection2004.org.

New JSR: JSR
252, JavaServer Faces 1.2. This JSR is an update
to the 1.1 version of the JavaServer Faces specification. Its scope
goes beyond a JCP maintenance release, but is short of a new feature
release.
New JSR: JSR
253, Mobile Telephony API (MTA), is now available
for review. This JSR creates a mobile telephony API and platform
definition which utilizes common telephony features and is small
and simple to suite to high volume devices with limited resources.
The review for this JSR closes on 20 September 2004.
The Expert Group for JSR
177, Security and Trust Services API for J2ME,
has completed its work and published the Final Release of the specification.
This specification provides J2ME applications with APIs for security
and trust services through the integration of a Security Element.
JSR
210, the OSS/J SQM API, is currently under
Early Draft Review stage and the RI for this API has started taking
shape. Mahindra British Telecom Ltd (MBT) and Watchmark-Comnitel
Inc are working together to demonstrate a "Service Assurance"
scenario using OSS/J SQM APIs. This Business Demonstration System
would "OSS/J enable” Watchmark Comnitel's Service Assure
(SA) product to integrate JSR 210 with OSS/J Trouble Ticketing (JSR
91) and IP Billing RIs ( JSR 130). The review for JSR 210 closes
24 September.
