JCP Community Focus Series
A new series starts this month on jcp.org, featuring some of the JCP program participants who have proven their intense interest in Java technology by running for the Executive Committee in 2004. Take a peek to discover both the outstanding and regular aspects of what they do within and beyond this community. The JCP @ Upcoming Industry Events
The JCP is participating at several industry events in the coming months.
 
TeleManagement World (TMW), Nice (France), 17-19 May. This conference, organized every year by the Telemanagement Forum (TMF), is the largest conference worldwide dedicated to OSS. The quarterly JCP program Executive Committee (EC) meeting and JCP Training session will be collocated with TMW, leading to multiple interactions between both events.
 
The JavaOne Conference, San Francisco (US), 27-30 June. This conference, now in its tenth year, is one of the largest gatherings in the world of developers, IT managers, and business professionals who are focused on Java technology. The JCP program will have activities planned for JCP members during the conference-stay tuned for details.

JCP European Training
The European edition of the JCP Training & Communication session will be held in a one and a half day format on 19 (half day afternoon session) & 20 May (full day), following TeleManagement World in Nice, France.
Training times: 19 May 13:00 - 17:00 and 20 May 9:00 - 17:00
 
This will be a hands-on, interactive session that includes modeling a JSR Expert Group and tips on how to utilize the JCP 2.6 enhancements introduced last March to increase the transparency, efficiency and participation of JSRs. The JCP Training and Communication Sessions present an unique opportunity for future Spec Leads and Expert Group Members to meet with members of the PMO and experienced Spec Leads & Experts.
 
The sessions are hosted by the PMO free of charge and are open to everyone with interest in the JCP Program. Noteworthy JSRs
Did you know that the PMO offers Public Relations support to spec leads? The JCP conducts outreach to the press with JSR news on an ongoing bi-weekly basis. If would like to highlight your JSR, please contact Corina Ulescu at corina@jcp.org.
  • JSR 273, Design-Time API for JavaBeans JBDT has been submitted. This JSR extends the JavaBeans specification and APIs to improve design-time functionality for component authors to leverage within the visual design environments in IDEs. The JSR review closes 25 April.
  • JSR 272, Mobile Broadcast Service API for Handheld Terminals, has been submitted by Nokia and Motorola. This specification will define an optional package in J2ME/MIDP/CLDC environment to provide functionality to handle broadcast content, e.g. to view digital television and to utilize its rich features and services.
  • JSR 224, Java API for XML-Based RPC (JAX-RPC) 2.0, is in Early Draft Reivew. This JSR will strongly align with JAXB, effectively delegating to the JAXB 2.0 specification (developed in parallel with the present one) all data binding-related tasks. This review closes 5 May.
  • JSR 158, Java Stream Assembly, is now available for Public Review.
    This JSR specifies classes and interfaces for the creation, management, and processing of broadcast and interactive stream multiplexes. This review closes 26 May.
  • JSR 170, Updated Proposed Final Draft, Content Repository API.
    This specification will define a standard API that addresses the need for web applications to access content repositories in Java 2 independent of implementation.
  • JSR 181, Web Services Metadata for the Java Platform, has passed the Final Approval Ballot, This JSR defines an annotated Java format that that uses Java Language Metadata (JSR 175) to enable easy definition of Java Web Services in a J2EE container.
  • JSR 234, Advanced Multimedia Supplements, has passed Final Approval Ballot. This specification will define an optional package for advanced multimedia functionality which is targeted to run as an supplement in connection with MMAPI (JSR-135) in J2ME/CLDC environment.
  • JSR 186, Presence, has passed Public Review ballot. Final release is planned for Dec 2005.
  • JSR 187, Instant Messaging, has passed Public Review ballot. Final release is planned for Dec 2005.
