jcp.org redesignWe are phasing in a new presentation/design for the jcp.org web site. Heather gave a preview of the design.
Java Ecosystem Working GroupThis working group focuses on open source libraries and the process for keeping up to date with the current releases of Java. We had a Birds of a Feather session at Devoxx. The "Jackson" project lead will come and give a talk to the working group on 17 February. If you have other projects that would like to present to the working group, let Heather know.
Java in EducationThis working group focuses on working with JUGs to bridge the gap between academia and industry. A number of updated materials have been posted to the Java in Education wiki, and Heather presented a list of the materials that are in development. This group will meet again on 24 February 2026, and again face-to-face in March at the JCP Social Event.
Java & AI Working GroupThis working group focuses on changes to Java that support the use of the language for AI (and raising awareness of those changes). Heather outlined what work has been done and is coming soon. Zoran reviewed the e-mail prompt he will be sending to the panama-dev list owner for posting to the list. The Working Group will meet again on 10 March, and again on 17 March.
JEP 500: "Prepare to Make Final Mean Final"Alex Buckley from the Java Platform Group at Oracle presented on JEP 500. This JEP will be delivered as part of Java SE 26 in March. The JEP in SE 26 introduces a default warning when deep reflection mutates a final field. In a future release, final field mutation will be disabled by default. Alex presented what the effects of this change might be, and went over recommendations for library maintainers to accommodate this change. See Alex's JEP 500 presentation for details.
CalendarUpcoming events: On the 16 March we may have an event, on 17 March we have the JCP Social event (with working group breakout rooms), and on 20 March we have the (required) EC meeting. Later on 20 March we may have a JUG-related activity, too. For that next meeting, it will be in the Bay Area on Friday, 20 March (the day after JavaOne). Microsoft said that it won't be able to host. If you are able to host in the Bay Area on 20 March, let Heather know. SAP will host the Executive Committee on 2 October in Heidelberg, Germany.
