JCP Community Content

The Program Office introduced a new multimedia section this month on
jcp.org. There are three items currently available there. The 2006 JCP
Training that was recorded at the 2006 JavaOne conference is now
available. On this page you will also find an interview with Hal King,
CEO of King Brown Partners, Inc who talks about satisfaction with the
JCP. There is also a short audio only segment for Spec Leads: Harold
Ogle discusses Community Updates and the Observer Alias.

Java Logo Programs Available
Now it's easier than ever to access Duke images. A logo library of 15 Duke images is now available for use in a variety of places such as web sites, blogs and email signatures. Duke is for everyone--pass along the word.

The Java Get Powered logo is available for Java enthusiasts and developers who want to show their affiliation with the Java community.

You can also host the download button and provide a direct link for your visitors to the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE); if you are interested in hosting the button.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (EC) ELECTIONS 2006

Ratified voting will end at midnight on Monday 16 October at midnight (pacific time); this is your last opportunity to cast a vote in this phase of the 2006 elections. The JSPA 2 contact(s) for each JCP member company or individual are eligible to vote. Please cast your vote today!

.Nominations for the remaining seats (2 on the ME EC, 1 on the SE/EE EC) can be submitted this year from 17-27 October. If you or your company is interested in joining the EC, it is time to prepare your nomination. The nomination form will become available from the voting web site on 17 October. Open election voting will follow from 31 October -13 November, with final results on the 14 November.

Noteworthy JSRs
Did you know that the PMO offers Public Relations support to spec leads? The JCP conducts outreach to the press with JSR news on an ongoing bi-weekly basis. If would like to highlight your JSR, please contact Corina Ulescu at corina@jcp.org.
  • JSR 306, Towards a new version of the JCP, has been approved by the EC for development in the JCP program. This JSR proposes a variety of changes and adjustments to the JCP:
  • JSR 277 , Java Module System, is now available for Early Draft Review.
    This review closes on 13 November.
  • JSR 247 , Data Mining 2.0, is now available for Public Review. This review closes on 4 December.
  • JSR 263 , Fault Management API, is now available for Public Review. This review closes on 6 November.
  • JSR 280, The JSR 280 EG would like to encourage feedback in an interactive discussion format at http://blogs.sun.com/jsr280, as well as on the usual comments alias (jsr-280-comments@jcp.org).
  • JSR 268, Java Smart Card I/O API, Proposed Final Draft is now available.
  • JSR 199 Java Compiler API, Proposed Final Draft is now available.
  • The Expert Group for JSR 232, Mobile Operational Management, has
    completed its work and published the Final Release of the specification.
  • The following JSRs have become available for Maintenance Review:
    JSR 252, JavaServer Faces 1.2,
    JSR 245, JavaServer Pages 2.1,
    JSR 154, Java Servlet 2.4, and
    JSR 176, Java SE Release contents.
  • JSR 50, The Distributed Real-Time Specification, plans to release an Early Draft Review for previewing the distributable threads abstraction in the coming months it is described in a paper to be presented at JTRES 2006. It can be downloaded from http://www.real-time.org/referenced_documents.htm#jtres06 .
    Note: This paper has an ACM copyright and thus should not be distributed outside the Community until the Proceedings is published later this week.
