MinutesThe EC Standing Rules state the following penalties for non-attendance at EC meetings (note that those who participate in face-to-face meetings by phone are officially counted as absent):
Personnel changes/EC ElectionsAnton Arhipov is the new primary representative for JetBrains; a new alternate will be provided. Derek White, previously an alternate representative, becomes Intel's primary representative. Heather summarized the JCP EC Election nominations and membership renewals, in addition to the timing of both the EC ballot and publishing the subsequent results in November.
EC StatsHeather presented the usual EC stats (see the presentation for details).
OpenJDK Project Update: Project AmberGavin Bierman presented an OpenJDK update on Project Amber, a review of progress from 2020-2025. The goal of Project Amber is to explore and incubate smaller, productivity-oriented Java language features (see presentation for details).
OpenJDK Project Update: Post-Mortem Crash Analysis with jcmdKevin Wall presented an OpenJDK update on JEP 528, Post-Mortem Crash Analysis with jcmd (see presentation for details).
Paving the Onramp and Platform Integrity UpdateRon Pressler presented an update on the Paving the Onramp effort, as a follow up to his presentation at the Spring 2024 face-to-face EC meeting in Munich. The projects outlined in the effort have now been delivered over the course of the last year, as of the September 2025 release of Java SE 25, and are open to exploring further enhancement based on ongoing feedback. Heather suggested that the Java in Education working group could update their summary of the proposed changes and also ask for suggestions of other updates to come. Ron also shared on updated on Integrity by Default, Java platform integrity (see presentation for details).
Java in EducationHeather reviewed the summary of discussions in the Java in Education Working Group. The EC reviewed some updates to the materials for JUG leaders and the in-person events planned for London and Lille next week. The next working group discussion will be October 28.
Java Ecosystem Working GroupHeather reviewed the wiki page and plans for in person engagement with library maintainers. There will be a birds of a feather session at Devoxx and discussions are underway for FOSDEM next year. Heather asked for suggestions of projects to reach out to for discussion. The next meeting date will follow based on suggestions for library maintainers based on their experiences.
Java & AI Working GroupZoran presented the updated presentation that was reviewed in our September working group meeting and had incorporated comments from Bryan Munoz of the Dominicana Java User Group. The comments added clarity and some useful background/primer information for future presenters. The working group will meet again in November to discuss sharing the presentation more broadly with the Java User Group Community (see presentation for details).
JavaOneGeorges Saab presented updates on plans for the upcoming JavaOne being held in March 2026 in Redwood Shores, California. We discussed this as a possible option for our Spring face to face (see presentation for details).
Java User Group UpdatesWe discussed some updates from current leaders, Steve Poole, on some of the activities in the London Java Community (LJC), including our JCP informal round table meeting the LJC next week; Bruno shared about some of the activities in the SouJava community in Brazil (see the presentation for details), and Maaya shared about the Japan Java User Group community activities, including the possible coordination with the CCC event coming up at the end of May 2026 (see the presentation for details).
ARM Host PresentationStuart shared a presentation on Java at ARM and the history of ARM (see the presentation for details).
Java SE 25 UpdateAlex Buckley presented a comprehensive update of what is new in Java SE 25, and summarized the improvements for those upgrading from Java SE 21, including easier to learn, easier to write application, better performance, concurrency and security improvements, post quantum algorithms, startup and footprint enhancements from Leyden, and better profiling (see the presentation for details).
Other Business - Logistics and 2026 CalendarHeather reviewed a few upcoming events and dates in the calendar. The locations for our 2026 face to face meetings are in the doodle poll for Spring – options are the Bay Area on Friday, March 20, and Japan in May following or in advance of the CCC event in Tokyo. Heather urged people to make final selections based on ability to attend in person. SAP agreed to investigate potential to host a Fall meeting in Germany. Heather thanked ARM for their gracious hosting of the meeting, and the dinner following the EC Meeting that evening.
