How to Contribute to OpenJDK, Part 2Alex Buckley presented a comprehensive overview of how to contribute to OpenJDK, as a follow up to the June JCP EC Meeting presentation (see presentation for details). Alex reiterated that reporting your experience is the most valuable contribution you can make to the OpenJDK projects. To complement this topic, BNY shared their experiences contributing to OpenJDK projects. Sirisha and Victor summarized their goals and outcomes. BNY wanted to actively participate in a JEP. To begin they investigated the Quality Outreach program and discussed internally in which areas to participate. Victor shared some challenges with uniformity in the location of links to the mailing list discussion and draft documents and builds, depending on the type of JEP and the state of the JEP, with some JEPs going on for years. Victor suggested a Getting Started Guide may be helpful. In summarizing their experience, it is suggested to research JEPs (see list of JEPs) for areas of interest, communicate with the JEP author on the mailing discussion list, decide on areas to focus and take action by collecting feedback and then document that feedback on the mailing list or issue tracker. See also the OpenJDK Developer Guide.
Java & AI Working GroupZoran reviewed a draft of the presentation being developed in the working group; we discussed adding more projects into the ecosystem slide. We will continue to refine the presentation before our next meeting September 30 (see the presentation for details).
