The JavaOne Conference is one of the best occasions for members of the Java Community Process (JCP) program to meet up in person during the year. The event will be held next month in San Francisco, California, October 2-6, in The Zone, a trifecta of the Hilton, Nikko, and Parc 55 hotels. JCP members are gearing up for a flurry of technical and social activities offered to the community.

JCP events start up on Sunday, October 2. At 2:30 pm in Moscone West - 2024, Dan Sline will lead an open discussion of a topic that is particularly hot this year: ?Java User Groups and the JCP,? session 30440 -- how JUGs and the JCP community can work together to make the Java platform stronger. Dan will also address how user groups can help their members become more aware of benefits offered by the JCP.

Just after Dan?s talk, and just before the JavaOne Open House, the Executive Committee (EC) will host a face-to-face, open question-and-answer meeting to discuss topics of interest to the community and media. The public is welcome to attend this event, which will take place at the Hilton San Francisco, 333 O'Farrell Street, 3:45-5:15 pm. Please send any topics you would like addressed to pmo@jcp.org.

Off and on Monday through Thursday, the JCP Program Management Office (PMO) staff will speak or take questions during periodic 20-minute time slots at the stage in the community hub of the Mason Street Cafe.

On Monday through Wednesday, a meeting room is open at the Parc 55 San Francisco for Spec Leads who want to meet with their Expert Groups to discuss their Java Specification Requests (JSRs). Spec Leads can reserve the room on a first-come, first-served basis by emailing heather@jcp.org or by claiming a time slot on the sign-in sheet at the room.

The JCP program has a variety of sessions scheduled as part of the actual JavaOne Conference. On Monday, October 3, those registered for JavaOne may attend the panel discussion, ?JCP and the Developer Community? session 23647. This panel comprises a cross-section of JCP movers and shakers, including members of the PMO, Executive Committee, JUG leaders, Spec Leads, and Expert Groups. This event will take place at the Hilton San Francisco, Golden Gate Room 6-8, 11:00-noon.

Later that day, JavaOne attendees may drop by the ?Meet the Executive Committee Candidates? BOF session 23641. During this evening session, those who are planning to run in the EC election this Fall will answer interview questions to present their pertinent background, passions, and agendas. This event will take place at the Hilton San Francisco, Golden Gate Room 6-8, 7:00-7:45 pm.

On the following night, Tuesday, October 4, the annual JCP Community Party will take place at the Anzu Restaurant in Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason Street. Drop by at 6 pm to meet fellow JCP members and EC representatives, enjoy hors d?oeuvres, pick up a door prize, and congratulate the announced winners of the 9th annual awards in three categories: JCP Member/Participant of the Year, Outstanding Spec Lead, and Most Innovative JSR.

Last, but not least, get up early on Wednesday, October 5, to get a quick glimpse behind the scenes. Hear directly from several Spec Leads who are speaking at ?Lightning Talks: JSRs in Progress,? session 23645. This event will take place at the Hilton San Francisco, Golden Gate Room 6-8, 8:30 - 9:30 am.

During this week JSR Spec Leads will participate in many technical sessions, BOFs, and other events to spotlight JSRs underway through the JCP program. Search the JavaOne Conference Sessions Content Catalog for the keyword JSR to discover a wealth of material. This year, the JCP Community is in The Zone.
