July 2003
Here is your July edition of the PMO News Bulletin. This Bulletin
is sent to JCP (sm) Members, Spec Leads and Experts and is scheduled to
be a monthly insert in your email inbox. This edition covers some recent
news, Executive Committee meeting summaries, the JCP awards presented at
the JavaOne Conference, JCP 2.6, some future community meeting dates,
the JCP Training dates and a few noteworthy JSRs.

** EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (EC) MEETING **

The JCP EC recently held their second face-to-face meeting of 2003 in
Santa Clara, California. Summaries of the JCP EC meetings are available
for JCP members who are interested in following the work of the EC. You
will need your your JCP Community Draft user ID and password (not your
Expert Group user ID) to access the summaries:

** JCP AWARDS PRESENTED AT COMMUNITY EVENT DURING JAVAONE **

During the Java Community event, Onno Kluyt presented the first-ever JCP
awards.
- Most Innovative J2ME JSR
Nokia Spec Lead Jyri Huopaniemi accepted the award to JSR 184, Mobile 3D

- Most Innovative J2SE/JSEE JSR
BEA Spec Lead Rich Rollman accepted the award to JSR 207, Process
Definition for Java: http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=207
- Best Spec Lead
Jim Van Peursem of Motorola was awarded "Best Spec Lead" for working
well with a huge group of 60 experts on JSR 118.
The awards were granted based on a JCP EC member vote. Each award
recipient received a crystal stand-up plaque, and the expert group
members for JSR 184 and JSR 207 will receive award certificates in the

** JCP VERSION 2.6 COMMUNITY REVIEW **

JSR 215, JCP 2.6, is planning to enter Community Review on this Friday,
25 July 2003. We urge all community members to please review and
provide comments on this JSR during Community Review. Review the JSR

The PMO is planning to hold at least two evening community meetings to
discuss the JSR and listen to member feedback. Please save the dates if
you are planning on being in the area. More details to follow soon.

** UPCOMING JCP TRAINING **

The JCP Training and a Communication session to which EC members will be
invited is coming soon to the Boston area. Liz Cadd, JSR Program
Manager, will be holding her invaluable training session on Thursday,
October 2 & Friday October 3, at the Sun campus in Burlington,
Massachusetts. The session is open to all JCP members. Please contact
Liz for more details at liz.cadd@sun.com.
** Noteworthy JSRs **

with the Java Community. If your JSR has something newsworthy to report

- JSR 185, Java Technology for the Wireless Industry, passed the Final
Approval ballot on 30 June 2003: http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=185
-JSR 168, Portlet Specification, is in Public Review; the review closes
on 16 August 2003: http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=168
-The JSR 121 expert group is working with the J2ME community to deliver
isolation APIs directly to CLDC and CDC users via optional packages in
addition to the expected package for J2SE users. If you have
requirements for isolation in J2ME contexts, contact JSR-121 EG member
Richard Houldsworth (richard.houldsworth@philips.com), the single point
of contact for J2ME-related requirements for this JSR.
Remember, all JSRs operating under JCP 2.5 (the current version of the
JCP) require that all expert group member entities have signed the JSPA2
