JCP News Bulletin
October 2002 

Here is your October edition of the PMO News Bulletin.  This Bulletin
is sent to JCP Members, Spec Leads and Experts and is scheduled to be a
monthly insert in your email inbox. This edition covers the EC Elections,
the launch of JCP version 2.5 and the new Java (TM) Specification Participation Agreement (JSPA) and the 2003 JavaOne (SM) Conference Call for Papers.

** EC Elections: Ratification Ballot Closes October 15, 2002 **
 ---------------------------------------------------------------
The Executive Committee (EC) Elections are underway. The ratification
ballot is open until October 15 at midnight PST.  To cast your vote go
to:

DEADLINE TO VOTE:  OCTOBER 15, 2002

The JSPA contacts for each JCP member/company are eligible to vote and
were sent their PIN number on October 1 via email.  Remember, the ballot
closes on Tuesday, October 15; if you haven't already voted, please cast
your vote now.

Following the ratifications, nominations for the open elections can be
submitted. If you or your company is interested in joining one of the
ECs this is a good time to prepare your nomination. The nomination
template will become available from the web site on October 17.


** JCP 2.5 and the new JSPA **
-------------------------------
The PMO is planning to launch version 2.5 of the JCP on October 29,
2002.  Any JSRs submitted on or after October 29, 2002 will be under JCP
2.5 rules, and any existing JSRs may transition to JCP 2.5 at that
time.  In order to operate under JCP 2.5 (see JSR 171), all expert group
members on the JSR must sign the new JSPA (see JSR 99).

** 2003 JavaOne (SM) Conference -- Call for Papers **

 JUNE 9-13, 2003
MOSCONE CENTER, SAN FRANCISCO, CA

The JavaOne Conference is one of the most important events for those who
develop and deploy powerful Java technology-based applications. You'll be seeing
more information about the Conference in the near future, but for now we want
you to know about the Call for Papers. The JavaOne (SM) Conference is seeking
proposals for sessions.  Submissions will be accepted from September 30 -
November 8, 2002.

** Noteworthy JSRs **
-------------------------
This section of the News Bulletin calls out JSRs that have news to share
with the Java Community. If your JSR has something newsworthy to report
then send an alert ("Hey PMO!") to pmo@jcp.org.

-The expert group for JSR-000099 Java Specification Participation
Agreement (JSPA) has made the final release of its specification.  The
final specification is available from the Java
Community Process Web site:  http://jcp.org/jsr/stage/final.jsp

-The expert group for JSR-000062 Personal Profile Specification
has made the final release of its specification.  The J2ME TM Personal
Profile provides the J2ME environment for those devices with a need for
a high degree of Internet connectivity and web fidelity.  The final
specification is available from the Java Community Process Web site:

** For Spec Leads **

The PMO provides Export Classification for your JSR at Community Review
and has taken on the task to update the Export Classification for all
JSRs throughout the process.  You can find the Export Classification for
your JSR at:  http://www.sun.com/sales/its/software/jsr_matrix.html.
