Based on the points raised during recent email discussion, comments below and discussions with the submitter, this JSR proposal will require further re-scoping and refinement. However, Nokia regards the topic as such worth further studies and is willing to participate and support further actions on this topic.

IBM shares many of the technical concerns discussed in various threads over the last week, and so feels that withdrawing the JSR is the appropriate action at this point in time. We have discussed our concerns with the submitter, and indicated our willingness to help in on-going work to refine this proposal into something that can achieve wider support.

We'd definitely like to find ways of simplifying Java client application
construction.  That is an area that seems ripe for some experimentation
and innovation.

Unfortunately the draft JSR is very broad and it seems to be taking on
some extremely tough problems.  There also seems to be a risk of conflicts
with existing APIs like internationalization and logging.  In general
the proposal does not provide a clear enough definition of what specific
problems it is trying to solve.

Without a clearer understanding of what problems are being solved and
without some broader community support for creating APIs in this space,
it seems premature to try to create a standard.
