  Sun supports the proposal on the understanding that no
  Java language changes are involved and that what is being
  proposed is a Java Standard Extension.  (The proposal
  requires at least 82 new classes, and this seems
  inappropriate for the J2SE core.)

  Performance is an important goal for this JSR.  However,
  it is important that the specification should allow for
  a wide variety of implementation techniques and should
  avoid mandating any specific implementation techniques.
