IBM's vote is based on the technical merits of this JSR and is not a vote on the licensing terms.  IBM supports licensing models that create an open and level playing field by allowing third parties to create independent implementations of Java Specifications and that do not allow individuals or companies to exercise unnecessary control for proprietary advantage.  We support open source as a licensing model for contributions in the JCP, and would hope others will support this direction. This comment is not necessarily directed at the current business or license terms for this JSR, however, it is a statement of IBM's preferred licensing model.

Ericsson's vote in support for JSR-248 is based on the merit that we now have a common framework for a set of generally useful and attractive JSR's (part of the 248 framework) while at the same time advances have been made on defragmentation and interoperability.

We would however also urge engaged members of the "248" community (the EC in this case) to also work to advocate the need for not only a widespread but also "full" (reduce optionality as much as possible) support of JSR-248 in order to also enable effective consolidation on the 248 "implementation" requirements for the global market - Thanks!

With the help of its outstanding specification leaders, the group has established a constructive consensus against fragmentation of Java ME for the mobiles. As supporter of the JSR 248 specification, Orange calls for adoption by community.

Looking forward, Orange believes in a graceful evolution of the CLDC based platform for the mobiles rather than in a risky migration to another configuration. The CLDC based platform for the mobiles must continue its evolution, by including new functionalities at core level, by improving its profile and by requiring additional components. Orange calls for an evolution version of MSA for CLDC.
