We support the general idea of the JSR but CLDC should also be a clear target to reduce fragmentation in Java ME. The result should fit to JSR 248/249. The scope of Digital TV / Gateways seems to be too limited to reach this goal. We encourage the Spec Lead to adopt this in the scope of the JSR and resubmit the proposal.

With some regrets, Intel votes "no".  We believe there is potential value in the basic idea of the proposal, but that the description must be clarified.  In particular the problem being solved must be described more clearly, in addition to clarifying whether the mention of "home devices" is intended as limiting the scope or simply as noting the environments in which the primary benefit would be derived.

We encourage the submitter to revise the proposal and resubmit it.

Ericsson votes "no" for the following reasons:

- The target Java platform as defined in the proposal (i.e. CDC based home devices) seems to be narrow. It is not appropriate to create such division in the CDC space.

- It is desirable to have common resource management architecture across CLDC and CDC.

- The proposal seems to be specific to a particular implementation type i.e. J2ME environments running in a single process environment. 
 
- Exposing this kind of low-level information (VM implementation details) to applications does not sound like a good idea. Such API can potentially be harmful to the application environment if the resource managers are not developed by careful programmers.

We encourage Samsung to address these issues and re-submit the proposal.

This JSR would benefit from a scope that is more broadly defined. The limited scope (set top box etc. )could potentially cause fragmentation if another framework is used for other applications. Additionally, exposing this level of low level resource control to applications may not be desirable thing to do.
