There are a number of capabilities defined in the JSR. The only one related to image handling is "Image Post-Processing Capability". Sony Ericsson believes that there is a need for a smaller capability for images with a minimum functionality to allow images created in MIDP 2 to be converted to JPEG. This is functionality that should have been included in MIDP 2 and is something that every implementation should have

IBM's vote is based on the technical merits of this JSR and is not a vote on the licensing terms.  IBM supports licensing models that create an open and level playing field by allowing third parties to create independent implementations of Java Specifications and that do not allow individuals or companies to exercise unnecessary control for proprietary advantage.  We support open source as a licensing model for contributions in the JCP, and would hope others will support this direction.   This comment is not necessarily directed at the current business or license terms for this JSR, however, it is a statement of IBM's preferred licensing model.

The current specification draft is not precise on many areas which leave room for interpretation. 
Some restrictions are not clear e.g. SnapshotControl only stores images in the file system (normally slow flash memory). To process Snapshots direct after taking the pictures a target like javax.microedition.lcdui.Image[] could be an alternative location for storing the images.
Siemens will provide more feedback after we have finished a more detailed analysis.
