Apple is also concerned about the lack of consensus in the EG reported by Apache.  If a particular spec. can't reach consensus within the confines of an expert group, it's going to have difficulty gaining adoption in the public.

Compaq is very concerned about Apache's report on the workings of the Expert group.  The Java Community Process will not work if input is not accepted.  The expert group needs to  come to consensus on this JSR before it is approved.  While we support the need for Java Daemon processes, we think that there should be a simpler approach to providing this capability.  Compaq is therefore voting no.

We are very supportive of the expert group leader's efforts to reach consensus on this proposal within the group. From the comments raised to date, however, we do feel that the team need to re-group and make a concerted effort to solve the issues raised within a 30 day reconsideration period. We note that this will need the constructive and supportive efforts of all the expert group members, not just the leader, to achieve this.

Apache votes no for the following reasons:  The spec lead pushed this to community review without EG consensus, there are security concerns regarding the interaction of the daemon and daemon container, the object model does not follow standard Java programming idioms, and we perceive excessive overlap with JMX and don't see any interaction with related APIs such as the Java Isolate API (JSR-121).  Details about each of these concerns is being sent to the SEEE mailing list.
