MinutesThe EC Standing Rules state the following penalties for non-attendance at EC meetings (note that those who participate in face-to-face meetings by phone are officially counted as absent):
Personnel changesGeorges Saab becomes primary representative for Oracle, Luke Kowalski becomes alternate representative for Oracle. Xichel Ruiz added as Associate JCP EC Member.
EC Stats, EC Elections, JCP AwardsHeather presented the usual EC stats and reviewed the results of the EC Elections completed in November 2025 (see the presentation for details). Nominations for the Annual JCP Program Awards are now open. Please view, nominate and share the link more broadly to encourage more award nominations.
JSR 401 Update, Java SE 26Iris Clark provided an update on JSR 401, Java SE 26. It is scheduled for Public Review in January and Public Review/Final Approval Ballot in February (see presentation for details).
JavaOne 2026 UpdateSharat Chander presented an update on JavaOne 2026. We discussed group discounts for attendees, sponsorships and the JCP annual social event during the Conference. We also discussed that there will be several pre-conference Java User group visits in the US leading up to JavaOne (see presentation for details).
Java in EducationWe discussed that materials and new content being working on in the Working Group – part 2 of Paving the Onramp article focusing on JEPs that were finalized in the Java 25 release, a new presentation focused on a developer audience and an article on acquiring AI skills for students or while employed. Next meeting will be January 6.
Java Ecosystem Working GroupWe discussed plans to discuss the working group progress and look for projects to present at a future meeting at the session planned in February during JFokus. Both Ivar and Bruno stated that they also will be in attendance in Stockholm to participate in the session. Next working group session will happen in February.
Java & AI Working GroupZoran reviewed progress from the Java & AI Working Group, and feedback from the project leads. Heather suggested we discuss the prompts for the mailing lists in our next meeting (see the presentation for details).
Other Business - 2026 CalendarHeather reviewed the options selected for the two face to face meetings of 2026 – Bay Area in March (Microsoft?) and SAP in October (SAP), as well as the virtual 2026 JCP EC Meeting dates in the calendar.
