Minutes


The EC Standing Rules state the following penalties for non-attendance at EC meetings (note that those who participate in face-to-face meetings by phone are officially counted as absent):
  • Missing two meetings in a row results in a loss of voting privileges until one meeting has been attended.
  • Missing five meetings in a row, or missing two-thirds of the meetings in any consecutive 12-month period results in loss of the EC seat.
There are no changes in voting privileges as a result of this meeting.

Personnel changes/EC Elections


New alternate added for Azul, Gerrit Grunwald, and a new alternate added for Oracle, Machiel Bolhuis. BNY Mellon has changed their name to BNY and will follow up with email to PMO.

Heather also reviewed the dates and JCP EC seats coming up for the 2024 JCP EC Elections.

EC Stats


Heather presented the usual EC stats (see the presentation for details). Iris Clark Java SE Platform updates (see the presentation for details).

Java in Education


Heather reviewed the summary of discussions in the Java in Education - we discussed updates from the Greenfoot team in April and the Alice team in June; we reviewed materials for JUG leaders focused on how developers are utilizing Java in industry, published on the GitHub wiki.

Heather leads a monthly discussion with Java User Group (JUG) leaders to discuss the workshops they are organizing in their local communities and provide guidance and best practices; the next discussion is June 25.

Java Ecosystem Working Group


Heather reviewed the Java Ecosystem Working Group wiki page and the next meeting date, June 18 with a presentation by Mala Gupta, a case study discussing how JetBrains supports new versions of Java.

JCP 25 Year Anniversary


Heather shared updates on some of the activities around 25th anniversary of the JCP (see the presentation for details).

Other Business - Logistics and 2024 Calendar


Heather reviewed a few upcoming events and dates, such as JavaOne 2025, JVMLS & OpenJDK Committers Workshop in August, and the remaining 2024 JCP EC Meeting dates in the calendar. We will meet in Seattle in Fall 2024, hosted by Amazon. The tentative hosts for our 2025 face to face meetings are Microsoft in the Bay Area and Arm in Cambridge.

We then adjourned for the Public JCP EC Meeting, with David Delabassee presenting an update on the Quality Outreach program.
