MinutesThomas asked about the potential to evolve the Java ME platform. Heather indicated that Oracle had discussed at the May EC Meeting their willingness to allow other JCP Members to evolve Java ME. Florian reiterated the slow adoption of Java ME 8. Thomas stated he believes that access is the most important topic. He also proposed that open source availability of the Java ME platform would help with adoption. Matt agreed that open source implemntations would help with adoption and interest in automotive market, since networking and portability in Java is strong. Leonardo expanded on his proposal to move forward with starting new JSRs targeting Java ME and SE, based on IP already developed from open source projects (like Eclipse IoT projects or OpenJDK Device I/O project) to gauge interest by the community on the platforms and move Java forward in the IoT space. Thomas indicated interest in participating in the effort and Gemalto believes in the potential market of the embedded space. Mike Millinkovich stated that the ecosystem needs an open source strategy Java in the IoT space. He offered to set up a meeting with the Eclipse IoT Working Group in August.
