BEA agrees with progressing J2EE 1.4 to community review. We also support IONA's comment regarding JSR 109. Finally we've raised some comments on new JSRs targetted for J2EE 1.4 in those expert groups (especially JSR 115) which we expect to get resolved in those expert groups.

IONA votes 'Yes' for this specification to proceed to Community review, however we would like the Specification Lead and the Expert Group to ensure that all of the specifications covered by this umbrella specification are consistent in their style, conventions and content with each other, in particular JSR 109, which we believe is currently more aligned as an addendum to J2EE 1.3 rather an integral element of J2EE 1.4.

Apache votes yes with the expectation that J2EE 1.4 will have final license terms that allow independent compatible open source implementations under terms essentially the same as recently agreed to for non-platform JSRs.

On 2002-06-30 IBM voted Yes with the following comment:
IBM's vote is based on the technical merits of this JSR and is not a vote on the licensing terms.  IBM supports licensing models that create an open and level playing field by allowing third parties to create independent implementations of Java Specifications and that do not allow individuals or companies to exercise unnecessary control for proprietary advantage.  We support open source as a licensing model for contributions in the JCP, and would hope others will support this direction.
